Dienstag, 03.07.2007"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 7" by Ian Ainslie What a match!, the teams were sailing their boats as if they were 10m long, instead of these huge boats in 15 knots of breeze. In a race of many twists, I'll go with the top mark dial down as being the critical moment in the race. (despite the heart stopper at the finish line.) It was an example of the power of the right finally deciding a perfectly even match. On the second beat, New Zealand allowed Alinghi to get to the right again.

"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 6" by Ian Ainslie Alinghi had to give up a bit of distance to take the right hand side gate. After a soak to get to the mark, they had to "kiwi" drop, which involves a bigger and slower turn...

Alinghi moves within one race of defending the America's Cup Alinghi came from behind for the second consecutive day to beat Emirates Team New Zealand on Saturday afternoon on the waters off Valencia. The Swiss Defender put in a strong, controlled performance on a difficult sea breeze day. Hundreds of spectator boats crowded the race course to witness the win.

"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 5" by Ian Ainslie New Zealand, after a great start, held the advantage at the weather mark. The expectation has been that Alinghi would be faster in 14knots and more. This did not appear to be the case today and it looked like we were set up for a very close race. What a pity that the result was decided by gear failure! In a bit of breeze (which it was for these boats) gear failure is an ever-present fear.

"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 3" by Ian Ainslie Strange times! At first it looked like New Zealand's bold move to take the right side of the course off the start line would be the race decider. Then it looked like the key moment would be when Alinghi wriggled around New Zealand's bow at the last mark. However, there was one last twist in the tail…

"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 2" by Ian Ainslie Up the second beat, Alinghi were giving Emirates Team New Zealand a bit of leverage, allowing them to close up. Near the top of the course, the right hand side is often very powerful in these conditions. So as the boats converged, in a left hand phase shift, Alinghi on starboard tack were mindful of keeping the right hand side of the course for strategical as well as tactical reasons.

"Turning Point - America's Cup Match - Race 1" by Ian Ainslie Alinghi on the port entry had a conservative dial up and allowed Emirates Team New Zealand to be powerful, bow aft with some separation when both boats were sitting head to wind. ETNZ fell off onto port first and did a "flip-flop" double gybe, hoping to hook Alinghi.

From FRA 1 (ITA 1) to SUI 100 Since the America's Cup Class was introduced as the new design for the Cup in San Diego in 1992 the class has reached sail number 100, although not all the sail numbers assigned resulted in boats that were completed. On the Swiss defender, Alinghi, there are three French crew members whose sailing CVs span the full history of the ACC class, from FRA 1 through to Alinghi's latest boat SUI 100.

SUI 100 christened at Port America's Cup Alinghi's newest boat and the latest America's Cup Class to be built, SUI 100, was christened on Saturday at Port America's Cup, on a sunny spring day. SUI 100 is the last ACC boat to sail in this Cup cycle as each of the 11 challengers have launched and trained with their new boats already.
